about me

At the core of my work is human experience — not as a concept, but as something lived, complex, and deeply personal.
People do not come to therapy because something is “wrong”. They come because life feels heavier than it should, because inner space becomes too narrow, or because change — chosen or unexpected — asks more than they currently have.
This is where I work: in the space between difficulty and possibility.

Who I AmMy name is Elena Parfenova. I am a psychosocial practitioner based in the Netherlands, working integratively with a focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
My professional path has developed over nearly 20 years of living and working in Europe, shaped by continuous exposure to cultural transition, migration, and the process of rebuilding life in new contexts.
This experience informs my work not as a story in itself, but as an understanding of what it means to live in change — internally and externally — over time.

My Therapeutic ApproachI work with ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), combined with trauma-informed and experiential methods.
At the center of this approach is psychological flexibility — the ability to stay in contact with your internal experience without becoming overwhelmed or disconnected from what matters to you.
In practice, this means working on:● relating differently to thoughts and emotions● reducing internal struggle and avoidance● building stability in moments of uncertainty● reconnecting with personal values and direction● developing a more grounded sense of self
Therapy, in this sense, is not about eliminating discomfort, but about changing your relationship with it — so that it no longer defines your choices or limits your life.
Who I Work WithI support adults navigating:● migration and adaptation to a new country● anxiety, overthinking, and chronic inner tension● burnout and emotional exhaustion● identity shifts and life transitions● feelings of disconnection, uncertainty, or stagnation● the psychological impact of long-term stress
Many of the people I work with are expats who are outwardly functioning, but internally overwhelmed or in transition.
Language & FormatSessions are available in Russian and Dutch.
I work online, with limited in-person availability in the Netherlands. Each session is structured, confidential, and paced according to your needs and capacity. The focus is not speed, but clarity and sustainability of change.
A Note on My WorkTherapeutic work is not about quick resolution or fixed answers. It is a process of becoming more able to stay with yourself — even in uncertainty — and to make choices that are aligned with what matters most to you.
My role is to support that process with presence, structure, and professional attention.
